How Ozone Works

O3 Oxidizer

Ozone is made when oxygen molecules (O2) are split apart by adding energy, resulting in two individual oxygen atoms (O1). These Oxygen atoms (O1) unite with other oxygen molecules (O2) to produce Ozone (O3).

The third oxygen atom is unstable and can combine with organic and inorganic molecules to destroy or change them through the process of oxidation. In a pool, these organic molecules can be viruses, bacteria, fungi, yeast, oils, chloramines, etc., and inorganic molecules can be dissolved metals such as iron, copper and manganese. Once the third unstable atom is through with its oxidizing duties, the resulting by-product is O2.
